OUTDOOR
EXPERENTIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM AT PKP
Following our meeting with staff
members of Annandale School in Tillsonburg, we are pleased to
announce that the pilot program we began with them last fall will
resume this spring. We learned a great deal as a result of the
fall sessions which will be incorporated into the spring sessions.
While the young people were at the Park last fall, they completed a
number of murals, some of which are shown below.

DONATION TO THE PARK
We had an unexpected, but very much
appreciated, donation made to the Park towards the end of last year,
a Ford 8N tractor with a number of very useful attachments and spare
parts. Thanks Mike for your very generous donation to the Park
- it will really come in handy for years to come.

2008 SPECIAL ADVENTURE CAMPS
We recently had a meeting to begin the
detailed planning required to successfully conduct our three Special
Adventure Camps this coming summer. It looks like another
great year for our summer campers as we offer the three programs of
Explorers, Voyagers and Leaders In Training. The revised 2008
application for campers is on the Special Adventure Camps page of
this web site. We will also be looking for a limited number of
voluntary staff and the 2008 Staff Application can also be found on
the Special Adventure Camps page. This is an excellent
opportunity for those of you involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award
Program who require a residential project this year.
HONOURS AND RECOGNITION
In order to honour those who have
been recognized by their country for exceptional performance of
duty, we will be publishing the names of those who have earned
National Honours.

Star of Military Valour
Corporal
S. Teal On September 3, 2006, during Operation
MEDUSA, the light utility vehicle driven by Corporal Teal, a member
of 7 Platoon, Charles Company, 1 RCR, was hit and destroyed by enemy
rocket-propelled grenade fire. Despite being wounded, Corporal
Teal assessed the situation, and under heavy enemy fire, moved to
report the situation and bring assistance. He then returned
twice to the vehicle to provide treatment to his severely wounded
comrades, including the platoon medic, and to evacuate all personnel
injured or killed. His brave and professional actions saved
lives and allowed the orderly withdrawal of his platoon under heavy
fire.
Private J. R. Larochelle On October
14, 2006, Private Larochelle of the 1st Battalion, The Royal
Canadian Regiment Battle Group, was manning an observation post when
it was destroyed by an enemy rocket in Pashmul, Afghanistan.
Although he was alone, severely injured, and under sustained enemy
fire in his exposed position at the ruined observation post, he
aggressively proided covering fire over the otherwise undefended
flank of his Company's position. While two members of the
Company were killed and three others wounded in the initial attack,
Private Larochelle's heroic actions permitted the remainder of the
Company to defend their battle positions and to successfully ffend
off the sustained attack of more than 20 insurgents. His
valian conduct saved the lives of many members of his company.
PUBLIC RELATIONS
CAMPAIGN
(28 Dec 07)
The most common response we receive when we are talking
to people about Peacekeeper Park is "we didn't even know it existed
- you should get the word out to more people". Well
that's what we're about to do. When we first started the Park
we didn't advertise our existence as we were not really a viable
entity. Now that we've a workable infrastructure, many
on-going programs, and new programs and projects on the drawing
board, we felt it was time to let the public know that we do indeed
exist. The first part of this public relations campaign will
be the professional production and printing of a four page pamphlet
outlining what Peacekeeper Park is all about. It should be
ready for distribution in January of 2008.
CHANGE TO ROLL OF HONOUR
(28 Dec 07)
An addition, more than a change, is being made to our
Roll of Honour; a change that will require a considerable amount of
time to complete. You will notice that a number of the names
of our Fallen are in a different, darker font. If you double
click on these names you will get more information and, where
available, a picture of the individual. This is being done so
that our Fallen Peacekeepers are remembered as real Canadians who
had real lives, relatives, friends, and comrades and who are not
remembered just as a name on a list. It takes a considerable
amount of time to research each one of the Fallen so please be
patient with us. If you have a picture, a story, or more
information about one of our Fallen, please send it to us, at
info@peacekeeperpark.com
and, once
confirmed, we'll include it on the Roll of Honour.
CURRENT UNFINISHED
PROJECTS
(28 Dec 07)
Path of Honour - We received a
donation from the South Brant Legion which has enabled us to finish
the first two legs of the Path of Honour. We intend to do some
more landscaping on it this spring, after we complete the spring
cleanup, and install some more crosses that we are currently
preparing. We have a couple of folks looking into providing
more storyboards for the Path as well.
First Aid Room - This project is
nearly finished so within the next month or so we hope to have the
drywalling completed, the plumbing and cupboards in and the plaque
mounted. We expect this totally accessible room to be
operational in the spring.
New Kitchen - This project is so
very close to being finished but we still need to give it a second
coat of paint and install the room's vent system. This will be
completed prior to the Special Adventure Camps in July.
King Marco Mess - We need to finish
the wall paneling and install a ceiling in the mess. By this
June the floor will be ready to accept a coat of epoxy paint and
before next winter we hope to have a heat source for the Mess.
Sports Fields - Due to the severe
drop in rental income this past year we didn't get the sports fields
sprayed and planted but this spring we're going to transplant some
trees from the sports fields area and plant some grass so that these
fields are at least ready for some basic useage.
