EXPLORER PROGRAM
Our entrance program for first year campers is, for
most, an introduction to community living and a sudden absence from the comfort
and support of their parents and guardians. For this reason, our
staff-camper ratio is almost one to two and the first few days of the camp are
critical to the individual having a successful experience. Past campers
are welcome to make the choice to return to the Explorers program before
advancing to the Voyager program.
The camp curriculum is designed to be hands on and is organized in
such a manner that, even in the sports activities, there are no losers, just
winners. The campers can elect to not participate in scheduled events but
this rarely happens. Activities for this initial program include canoeing,
swimming (both in the lake and in the pool), sports, overnight bush camping in
improvised shelters, campfires, environmental activities, cookouts, air rifle
shooting, learning knots and lashings, rope bridges, fishing, traversing,
hiking, arts and crafts, archery, abseiling and and introduction to maps and
compasses through orienteering. The campers live in tents with each tent
group made up of four campers. They are provided with an air mattress and a storage bin for their personal belongings.
This is a seven day program, presently limited to a maximum
of 25 campers, that will run from the 9th of July through to the 15th of July
this year. |
